Yesterday’s Wellington Market 'J PRICES VERY FIRM . b- ' -’■> ‘ ' j Although inclined to quietness, the tnar- ■ ket on the Wellington Stock Exchange ' yesterday was very firm, prices in several cases showing a hardening tendency. Interest in Government loans was unabated, all issues being quoted for. Prices ;i were firm, but supplies were very scarce 1 The 34 per cent, stock, 1939-43, sold at > £lOl/2/6 and the 1938-52 maturity at £lOl/10/-. Rural Advances bonds were ' again traded at,£96, and.more yere want- . cd at that price;) ■ Lodal body.and other debentures were a strong market. 1 Banks were again very quiet. Aus’l tralasias were traded at £l2/3/6, the first \ sale for some weeks, and late buyers stayed in at a shilling less. New South Wales ■ sold at £32/6/-. Union of Australia were rather easier at £9/10/-, but sellers stood •• firm at £9/17/6. . In pastoral shares, sellers were asking £lO/15/- for Dalgetys. Goldsbrough ' Morts were steady at 32/6, no sellers. ' National Mortgage “A’s” hardened to 62/6. and the “B’s” were unchanged at 30/-, with no'response. Auckland Gas were firmer, the paid at 23/7 and the contributing at 17/3. i A still firmer tendency was shown by insurance shares. Queenslands moved up to 61/6. and Standards were 6d. bet- ■ ter at 61/-. New Zealands were un- ■ changed at 56/9. South British were . 3d. off at 76/9, but sellers asked 78/-. Westport Coals were active and firm, three sales being reported at 13/9 and more wanted at that price. Slightly more .. interest was shown in breweries, Carltons were 6d. easier at>42/-> New Zealands... ■ being unchanged at 36/9. Buyers came in at 26/6 for StapW sellers-'a'sking 28/-. ■Miscellaneous shares continued firm, Slmrland preference, sold at 24/9. Colo-, nial Sugar were unchanged at £63, but sellers dropped out. Partners’-'Auctioneer- .. ing advanced 1/- to 61/-, and Wilsons Cement were 3d. better at .26/3. .Earners Fertilisers were very firm at 18/', sellers : 19/6, and Dominion Fertilisers moved up to 15/3. sellers 17/6. ... Mining shares were very quiet . with little change in prices.
