AMATEUR STATUS LOST
American Woman Athlete New York, December 12. The Amateur Athletic Union (National Division) informed the Australian Press Association that Mildred Didrikson bad forfeited her amateur status, following her decision of December 12, 1932. to turn professional. Miss Didrikson had then won the right to reinstatement as an amateur following her disqualification by the A.A.A. on December 5, 1932. on a charge that she had permitted her photograph and an interview to be used as an automobile advertisement. She denied that the advertisement was authorised. Her denial was accepted and reinstatement followed. She. however. turned professional as the direct’ result, as she said, of the controversy. At the present time she is touring the country in a professional basketball team.
