Leg Seriously Damaged UNDERGOES OPERATION (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, December 12. Mr. George Lansbury, the 74-year-old Leader of the Labour Party, who slipped and broke his thigh on Saturday, underwent an operation at Manor House Hospital, Hampstead, yesterday, by Sir Ambrose Woodall. The damage in the leg was found to be very severe, but the patient stood the operation well, and is comfortable this morning after a fairly good night. Among countless other messages of sympathy Mr. Lansbury received a telegram from Mr. Gandhi. The Prime Minister,'in the House of Commons this afternoon, expressed regret at the absence of the Leader of the Opposition. Mr. George Lansbury adding on behalf of members generally: “We all hope he will speedily be restored to health.”
