PATIENT CARRIED
Trip by Air Ambulance HAWERA TO OAMARU Dominion Special Service. Oamaru, December 13. The first flight of Wellington’s air ambulance with a patient was accomplished to-day, when the aeroplane, piloted by Flight-Lieutenant G. B. Bolt, made a perfect landing at Alma Aerodrome, Oamaru, having come from Hawera. The machine arrived shortly after 3 p.m., having made stops at Blenheim and Christchurch for refuelling. The flying time for the journey from Hawera to Oamaru was 4 hours 20 minutes, an average speed of 116 m.p.h. ’ The patient was Mrs. Williams, who wished to rejoin her people at Oamaru, but desired to avoid the lengthy rail and boat travel from the North Island. A nurse accompanied her. They had a very good trip. Aeroplanes have been used before in New Zealand for the removal of urgent medidal cases, but this is the first time than an air qmbulance has been used for this special purpose.
