His .seat on the Upper Hutt Borough Council is apparently nob a sinecure to one councillor who gave evidence in the Upper Hutt Police Court yesterday. When asked whether he was. elected to the council in the last elections, his answer was: “Unfortunately.” When a case dealing with an overloaded horse-floafi was being dealt with in the Upper Hutt Police Court yesterday, counsel submitted that the offence could only be committed at rare intervals. “Yes, but it is one of our ‘stable’ industries,” remarked Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M., smilingly. Action is being taken by the Upper Hutt Borough Council where wandering stock or unregistered dogs are reported, and something of a “field day” was celebrated in the Police Court yesterday. Seven cases of wandering stock were dealt with, and convictions were entered on thr,ee charges of having unregistered dogs. ( The attraction of suburban police courts for the public is usually not great, but the Upper Hutt Police Court yesterday had a full gallery of spectators, who numbered about thirty. Forty-five cases were dealt with.
