WAIRARAPA SWELTERS
Rain Wanted Urgently Dominion Special Service. . Masterton, December 13. Unpleasantly hot weather continues throughout the Wairarapa, and if there is no rain within the next week or two the position will ‘assume a serious aspect. As it is at present the prolonged spell of fine weather has caused a shortage of water in many parts, of the district, and all rivers are unusually low. Conditions in parts of the Lower Valley have been aggravated considerably by dry north-westerly winds, which have also had a detrimental effect on fruit and grain crops. The shade temperature in Masterton since last Saturday week has varied little in its maximum, the readings being between 82 and 84 degrees. Yesterday was the hottest day so far this summer, the maximum temperature rising to 86 degrees in.the shade. This afternoon the shade temperature was in the vicinity, of 84 degrees.
