Sir,— Regarding the passage in Pope Benedict XV’s letter to the belligerent Powers on August 1, 1917, which was quoted by Mr. Darroch in his letter on the above subject in “The Dominion on December 6 and runs as follow: —■_ What is needed is a simultaneous diminution of armaments, and it is needed precisely in order to help the nations to an era ot Pe May I point out to Mr. Darroch that he has evidently forgotten that the abovementioned letter was written when things looked blackest for England and her Allies, and when Germany was undoubtedly winning the war.—l am, etc., HONOUR TO WHOM HONOUR IS DUE. ■ Jffarton, December 8.
