Royal and Ancient Golf Club’s Definitions OPERATIVE JANUARY 1 By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received December 1. 8.30 p.m.) London, November 30. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club announces that the following definitions will become operative on January 1: — , , A professional is any player who has played for a money prize or has received payment for playing or teachlug the game, either by personal demonstration. lecturing, or allowing himself to be filmed The following are ineligible to participate in any amateur competition:— Those who for remuneration allow their names or likenesses to be used for advertising purposes or permit their names to be published as the authors of golf books or articles of which they are not tiie authors; those who report golf in which they are participating if journalism is not their recognised vocation: those who accept presents or are given facilities to buy golf merchandise at prices below the usual charges for the purpose of advertisement: also employees of golfing firms who play in tournaments and competitions with the object of furthering their employers’ interests.
