France and Australia NEGOTIATIONS LIKELY Paris, November 30. It is reliably understood that the French Government will shortly invite Australia to negotiate a trade treaty. It is understood that the Commonwealth has been informed of France’s desire to negotiate a trade treaty. The spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce points out that despite the fact that Australian wheat and butter are subjected to a 200 per cent, supertax, Australia's exports to France in 1032 were worth £7,000,000, whereas France’s exports to Australia were only £1,200,000. “A treaty,” he said, “m«y enable France to counter the Japanese silk invasion of Australia iinj give an advantage to Australian wool, fruit, and frozen meat in .Frejnji,.'markets."
