Work for Girls

Sir, —It gives one pause to think on the strangeness of humanity to offer to an employee working thirteen hours per day fifteen minutes off and a read of “The Dominion.” I fail to understand the excellence of conditions when the quoter thereof signs herself “Overworked.” That her position in her own home lie considered that of an overworked woman, speaks for itself. —I am, etc., GENERAL. Wellington, November 30. Sir.—l read with amazement the letter in your valuable paper, viz., “Overworked” (Otaki). Surely there is no need of this position remaining vacant long, with such conditions as “Overworked” states, but she does not state, the wages. Some people run away with the idea that a girl or woman can live on air. They forget a person’s clothes soon wear out. I think any girl’s or woman’s wages should be at least £1 a week, and if “Overworked” were prepared to pay that wage I’m sure she would always be suited. Tlie one employed should give of her best in service to her mistress, and remember she wants a fair deal for her money.—l am, etc.. SALLY. Wellington, November 30.
