“VALUABLE WORK”

Wellington N.R.A.’s Plan QUESTIONNAIRE ISSUED Attention was drawn to what he believed to bo a valuable piece of work carried out by the Wellington branch of the National Reconstruction Association by Mr. J. Abel when addressing the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association last night. “A questionnaire is being issued asking for brief and non-confidential statistics of work for which plans have been prepared, but which has not been nut in hand owing to causes arising from the depression,” he said. “This fna.v be new work or the extension of existing industries. Such information, when co-ordinated, will be of great assistance in indicating possible trends for successful investment and/or the employment of surplus labour, and will assist in determining what form of stimulus may be needed to increase industrial activity. “The National Reconstruction Association is confining its activities to assisting the utilisation of existng resources by existing means for general benefit and is essentially practical. It is avoiding consideration of experiments with the economic or financial system which might not be successful and might, on the contrary, lead to chaos. I hope, therefore, our members who receive this questionnaire .will make the small sacrifice of time necessary to fill it in, so far as they are able, and return it promptly, so assisting a work which I believe will be of benefit to everyone.”
