Over a similar distance Royal Appellant and Bright Flower took 521-ssec. _ . , , Gay Broney and Courthaven finished on terms at the end of six furlongs. The first three took 39 l-ssec., and the full distance Imin. 19 2-ssec. . Psychologist, after doing the first two in 251-ssec., completed five furlongs in Imin. 4 4-ssec. This hack is in good order. Sunny Sky and Alpinus. Sunny Sky worked over seven furlongs, running the first three in 391-ssec., and finishing in Imin. 34scc., going comfortably throughout. Alpinus, with his trainer in the saddle, worked over a mile. The first half was covered in 51 2-ssec., and the completed journey in Imin. 46seC. Billy Boy assisted him over the last five furlongs and finished in front in Imin. 8 2-ssec. Alpinus carried a solid weight and his effort was satisfactory. Baroscope was sent seven furlongs, Highland Chief assisting him over the first four and Barograph over the last three. He ran the first three in 391-0 sec., the four in 514-ssec., and the full distance in Imin. Slsec. Barograph was in front at the finish, after running the last three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. Snow Prince, after beginning slowly from the mile post. i*»i his last seven furlongs fh Imin. 354-ssec. He looks in first-rate condition. Kiltowyn, who was ridden out when he jumped away at -the seven-furlong post,- ran the first three furlongs in 38 2-ssec. and four in Slsec. He was then eased slightly, and finished very fast to register Imin. 30 3-ssec., running on particularly ' well at the end, a firstclass ..effort. The inside grass was available for fast, work at Takanini, the poles being out about 12 feet The horses worked the reverse way round in view of the Takapuna meeting, and some smart sprints were recorded. Greek Gold and Exaggeration got to the end Of five furlongs in Imin. 4sec., the pair finishing together, and the latter impressing the most. ■Gay Marigold and Thespis, from the seven-furlong post, after running their first half-mile in 52 l-ssec., completed the distance in Imin. 32sec., with Gay Marigold finishing on the better of the pair. Gay Blonde And Nun Nicer went half a mile, which they accomplished in 50 sec., with the former finishing on strongly. Arch Ruler and Sir Willbnyx recorded a smart effort over half a mile, registering 48 4-ssec. The former was going

Takapuna Plate Field COMMENTS ON TRACK WORK Dominion Special Service. Auckland, November 30. Racing conditions promise to be very favourable for the opening of the. Taka-, puna Jockey Club’s spring meeting on Saturday, and a successful meeting is anticipated. The Takapuna Plate field has been reduced by scratchings, and the club announced to-day that the race will not now be divided. The best gallops at Ellerslie this morning, when the course proper, with the flags out 30 feet, was available were recorded by Kiltowyn and Baroscope. Kilt' owyn went seven furlongs in lmin. 30 sec., and did his work attractively. He is in great heart, and should race well at Takapuna. Baroscope, with The Highland Chief to assist early and Barograph to bring him home over the last half mile, ran seven furlongs in lmin. 31sec. He also worked in good style and is in capital trim for his Alison Cup enOthers who performed very satisfactorily were Gay Broney, Courthaven, and AVee Pat, and they may be among the best prospects of the Ellerslie brigade for the meeting. • The inside grass, with the poles out Id feet, was in use at Takanini, and some good gallops were recorded. Tavern Knight, with Cherry King to bring him home over the last covered seven furlongs in lmin. 29 3-ssec., the last five in lmin. 3 3-ssec. It was a good effort on the part of Tavern Knight, who is on the improve. It has not yet been definitelv decided which of his two engagements Tavern Knight will keep on Saturday, but he may run in the Ponui Handicap. . u ... Rereatu also pleased by sprinting half a mile in 4Ssec. The three-year-old has been doing well lately and is expected to show up prominently Jn the Pakapuna Plate. ‘ Alignment went half a mile in 49 4-5 sec He is a good galloper for a novice, but he bled at his last start, and on that account his prospects are doubtful. Others who worked solidly were Gay Marigold. High Crest, Gay Blonde. Greek Gold, and Exaggeration. High Crest and Gay Blonde are both expected to show up in the juvenile races at the meeting. FURTHER SCRATCHINGS Bv Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, November 00. Takapuna scratchings are Plate: Lagoon, 3.15 p.m. Allegretto, 3.30 p.m.’ —

very well at the finish, and will race on the second day. Best Effort of Morning. Rereatu was again responsible tor the best effort of the morning, completing half a mile in 48sec. He has done a good deal of work lately, and has fined down Alignment pulled up well after running half a mile in 49 4-ssee. Speedmint and Gay Sheila worked over a mile and a quarter, but the pace was not on except over the last two furlongs, which were run in 25 2-ssec. Eldora ran a mile in Imin. 46 2-t>sec. — a very good effort for one of her class. Tavern Knight, with Cherry King to bring him home over the last five furlongs, ran seven furlongs solidly in Imin. 29 3-ssec., the last five taking Imin. 3 o-o sec. The pair finished together, and both were going well. High Crest began better than Gallant Knight at the half, and maintained her advantage to the end in 49 l-ssec. High Crest got into a fence yesterday and injured her stifle, but galloped well this morning, and is showing no signs of soreness. . - Haupere, with the assistance of Rerepai over the last three, ran five furlongs in Imin. 3 3-ssec., the final three taking 37 2-5 sec. Rerepai, who got a couple ot lengths the worst of the pick-up, finished ' up in front.

CLOSE CUP FINISH Plateau’s Feilding Win POMP IN THE STAKES Equitant Takes Sprint Race (By Telegraph—From “The Watcher. ) Feilding, November 30. The Feilding Jockey, Club's meeting opened to-day m fine and warm but overcast weathei. Some uinn racing was witnessed, with several blanket finishes. Inches only separated! ou horses at the finish of the cup woni by Plateau from Fairway and A* Khan. Equitant scored in the Flying Handicap an outsider. Royal Routine, and tes V ted ri the y e w^7 r °“ open another wry finish Jury make a quick return to winum„ f °The track was in good order and fast. The attendance did not l oc * i ar isator investments were £94-i,adecre-of £341/-10/- on the opening (lay last year, which was a Wednesday. W. E. Pine, rider of Land Tax in the Fitzroy Hack Handicap, ■ was suspended for fourteen days for interference.

Leader Falls at Last Fence. The hurdle race was characterised by the falls of Manuiri and Mitawhen both were racing prominently. Manuiri fell three fences from home, but when Million went out it was at the last obstacle, when he had the lead and the race obviously won. ,• Ruanui set the pace, but down the back was pulled in behind Million, Air Laddie, and Manuiri. Manuiri s fall left Million and Air Laddie in charge from Ruanui. Million’s fall left Air Laddie to win by a short length from Ruanui, with March Alone only half a length away, finishing fast. Mister Gamp was always well back.

Million looked very unlucky to miss, while Manuiri would probably have given trouble. Ruanui looked very unlucky to lose the ground he did in the running, March Alone put up a creditable effort, finishing strongly.

Courtega Decisively. The 'hot favourite. Courtega, scored decisively in the Trial Plate. She lay handy on the rails in the running, got through on the inner in the straight, and soon put the issue beyond doubt. Widflcn, Wyndale. and Raparahara led Courtega to the straight, where Courtega pushed through and went on for an easy win. Maypay came with a clash over the last bit to cut out Wyndale. Widden, who was followed by Raparahara, All Supreme, Tahurangi, and Colydon, was next.

Courtega won comfortably, but she appeared to have little in reserve. Maypay is showing improving form, while Wyndale was consistent. Widden fan a better race. All Supreme drew wide out, and ran creditably. Fine Cup Finish.

The Feilding Cup provided a great finish between four horses, Plateau getting up in the last stride to win from Fairway, who bad. led. over the last furlong. ■■■•«■ ' ' ■ . ■■ Carfex set a solid early pace, and was soon joined by Count Palatine, from Plateau, Fairway, View Halloo, Aga Khan and Thrasher. When the field settled down the order was Carfex and Count Palatine from Plateau and Fairway, then View Halloo and Age Khan. Fairway ran to the front entering the straight, and held on well,' Ibut weakened in the last few strides to go under to Slateau, with Aga Khau and Carfex next, ie four going over the lino in a. heap. View Halloo was close up, then came Count Palatine. Plateau won in solid style, aud would have been unlucky to lose, but it seemed as if Fairway came a little too soon. He carried'34lb overweight. Aga Khan and Carfex ran great races. Carfex lostground on the turn. View Halloo ran creditably, but Count Palatine was well beaten. He collapsed quickly over the last furlong, and probably was the cause of Fairway being left, in the lead so soon. Souchong Caught on Post. With Inflation sore, the Feilding Stakes was looked upon as a good thing for Souchong. He went to the front soon after the start, and led until within four yards of the post, when Pomp, who had never been very far away, stuck on best for a narrow win. Inflation iwas a poor third, and Inveresk next.. ’ Pomp finished generously, running up to his best form. The result was a surprise, but could hardly be termed unexpected, as the field,, bar Inflation, did not represent other than handicap’form. Inflation was so sore that he was last to get going. He ran a creditable race, but never had any chance, and was very lame on pulling up. Superb Riding Feat.

A superb riding feat by L. G. Morris on the favourite, Ida Merling, saw her win the hack distance event all the way. Her off rein broke after she had gone half a furlong, by which ti'me she had taken the lead. Desipite this handicap to control, and the fact that she rah out a little wide in the straight, she won handsomely. Always near her in the running were Royal Dash, Sanguine King, Blue Boy, and Pango. In the.run up the straight

Ida Merling fought off her challengers to win nicely, Royal Dash hanging on. to take second narrowly from Sanguine King. Pango was a good fourth, followed by Cardinal Moon, Blue Boy ami Ni'ghtrunner. * , ... The winner’s performance under ficulties was impressive. Royal Dash. Sanguine King and Pango all ran good races. Pango did not receive exactly the best of passages.

EquiianPs Decisive Win. Equitant, getting a nice run through on the rails in the straight from, behind the leaders, won the Flying decisively. Sea Fox, from the rails, was very slow away, and Cadland was also slow to find his feet. Lady Nan made the pace ano, joined by Souchong, led from Royal Routine, Farmer and Slippery. . The field closed up entering the straight, where Royal Routine hit the front.. Farmer tried to come through on the inner, but was not good enough. Cadland then challenged on the outer, but Equitant took Fanner’s opening and . went on to win decisively, Cadland failing to reach Royal Routine. Sea Fox was fourth, followed by Farmer, Slippery and Lady Nan. , Equitant won well, reaping the reward of her consistency. Royal Routine, rid*, den in behind, ran an excellent race. Cadland made up a good deal of ground rnd was possibly a trifle unlucky. He looks like returning to his best form. Sea. Fox was unlucky at the start and finished very well. Farmer and Slippery had every chance. The former will improve. Lady Nan showed she has lost none of her pace.

Dollar Prince Ridden Out. Amyril, favourite for the hack sprint, ran last practically all the way. Tiger Gain lost a lot of ground at the start, where "Boon and Pheon were also slow away. Headmaster began fast and led to the straight from Etiquette,. Dollar Prince and Acceptable. Once in line, Dollar Prince drew clear, but had to be ridden right out to stall off Tiger Gain, who finished strongly and very fast. Headmaster was a godd third and Land Tax fourth, followed by Acceptable and Royal Passion. Then there was a gap to Boon and Etiquette. . Dollar Prince was always going well, but Tiger Gain looked very unlucky. Headmaster showed a lot of speed. Land Tax came from a good way back. Amyril was interfered with at the start and nearly came down. Further interference took place here, and also in the running at the half-mile, Catalogue also being a sufferer.

Grand Jury in Last Race. In a keen finish to the concluding event Grand Jury finished best to win narrowly. Arikira was left, Havering also losing ground. Knollmere and Aston took up tile running from Lady Spy. Arrow Lad, Speed, and Grand Jury. The order was the same into the straight, where a. great tussle took place, Grand Jury sticking on best to win narrowly from Lady Spy and Arrow Lad. Knollmere was fourth, followed by Aiguille, Emotion, Aston and Speed. „ Grand Jury won well; Lady Spy. ran a good race, and Arrow Lad gave definite signs of returning form. Knollmere did not sec it out. Speed, who was the straight-out favourite, was in the picture for 'five furlongs. Aiguille and Emotion made up groujid toward the finish, but were always well back in the running. Details are:—
