UPPER HUTT TRAINS
Hope for Reduction in Travelling Time
Proposals for more convenient and quicker railway services from Wellington to Upper Hutt, were made some time ago by Cr. W. Fortune to the Upper Hutt Borough Council, which set up a deputation to interview the Railways Department. Cr. . Fortune told the council last evening that he had been informed, although unofficially, that the department contemplated reducing the travelling time by 10 minutes. He understood that it was intended later to eliminate some of the stops, and thus to reduce the time from an hour to 49 minutes.
Arrangements had been made, went on Cr. Fortune, for the deputation to wait on the General Manager of Railways next Friday, and be had been asked to supply such particulars as the general manager might require. The deputation will comprise the Mayor, Mr. A. J. McCurdy, Crs. W. Greig, G. H. Guthrie, J. Purvis, W. Fortune, • and a representative of the business men in the borough.
