An American Devil’s Island is being established by the Federal Government on the Island of Alcatraz in San Francisco bay, which has been a military prison for 20 years. The island is a mile from the land and has an area of 12 acres. It Is surf beaten and difficult to approach, though ferries pass somewhat near. It Is intended to send there 600 of the worst type of criminal, including Al Capone, habltuals, schemers, and those who retain outside contacts. There will be 600 cells, thus each criminal will be Isolated. There Is also a complete group of buildings which the army authorities are vacating.
