VILLAGE SETTLEMENT
Napier Smail Farms
ERECTION OF HOUSES
By Telegraph.—Press Association,
Napier, October 13.
Contracts have now been let for the erection of thirty-eight residences on the area of 250 acres of Harbour Board endowment land for the Napier village settlement prompted by the Government under the small farms scheme. The sections on which the homes are to be erected are of approximately five acres each. The settlers will be chosen from the ranks of the married unemployed. Much work has already been carried out on the area, including the formation of roads, the ploughing of land, the planting of crops, and also the fencing and sinking of artesian wells. The contract time for the completion of the dwellings, each constructed to the requirements of individual families, Is ten weeks. As a sequel to the letting of the contracts much work has been promoted by the No. 10 scheme, and two sawmills in the district have been placed on full-time engagement.
