ARTESIAN WATER
City’s Gear Island Proposal CONFERENCE IN PRIVATE Accommodation in the Mayor’s room at the Town Hall. Wellington, was fully taxed yesterday afternoon when a conference was held, attended by representatives of the City Council and the Hutt Valley local authorities, to discuss the proposal of the city corporation to take artesian water from a strip of its own land at Goar Island, near the pipe bridge. The Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, presided, and beside councillors was accompanied by the city engineer, Mr. G. A. Hart, the water and drainage engineer, Mr. E. R. McKillop, the city solicitor, Mr. J. O’Shea, and the town clerk, Mr. E. P. Norman. Representatives were present from the Petone Borough Council, the Lower Hutt Borough Council, and the Hutt County Council. The proceedings were “in committee.”
