Inkling went down to the river one day to see what changes spring had made there. He was just congratulating the willows on their new dresses when a friendly trout popped up and suggested that our imp should explore the secret places of the river with him.
In jumped Inkling, and was swimming merrily along when be felt something pull his leg. and draw him swiftly back through the water. “Oh. you're hooked,” cried the fish. Inkling struggled to free himself, and the fish gave him lots of good advice. It was useless.
The fisherman wound in his line. “Ah,” he thought, “I've hooked something really large at last. He must be a big fellow!” Inkling swam upstream and down, but gradually the fisherman hauled the sprite within peach of his long-handled landing net.
But what a surprise he got when, instead of a large fish in bis landing net, he saw a frightened and slightly cross Inkling. “A strange fish this one,” he said. Inkling was frightened when he found himself in the fisherman's dark, basket.
