License Suspended POLICE COURT SITTING ■ > For being found intoxicated in charge of a motor-car, James Richard Kirby, schoolmaster, aged 45*„was fined £2O, by Mr. E. Page, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. In addition his license was suspended for twelve months. Defendant, who did not appear, was represented by Mr. F. W. Ongley. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said that defendant had attended a cabaret in Cuba Street on Thursday eveniu.g, and when he left about 3 a.m. yesterday a constable noticed him staggering to his car. Before the constable could reach him he had started up the car, but had gone only a few yards. Mr. Ongley said that his client was a reputable man, who had attended a cabaret and became intoxicated. He should not have driven the car, and .realised that he had done wrong. False Statements. Two charges of making false statements of earnings to obtain employment under the Government scheme, and two of obtaining sustenance payment by making false statements of wages received, were laid against Frederick Charles Hudson by the inspector of factories. ’ On one charge he was fined £1 and costs, and on the other three he was ordered tb pay court costs. Licensing Offences. A police visit to the Dominion Hotel on a recent Sunday resulted in the licensee, John Coyle, being fined £5 and costs for keeping his premises open for the sale of liquor in prohibited hours. For supplying the liquor Frank Hill was fined £1 and costs, and similar fines were imposed on Charles Barrett, Frank Barrett, and William Price, for being on the premises. No Permits for Arms. Five men were fined for offences against the Arms Registration Act. For delivering possession of a firearm to a person without a permit, Richard Thomas Evans was fined £1 and costs. Fines of £1 and costs were imposed on Walter Henry Kilby and Ronald William Miles for obtaining firearms without permits, for which offence John Thomas Pugh was ordered to pay costs. Eric Lloyd Harris was ordered to pay 10/- costs for having in his possession an unregistered automatic pistol. Alleged Assault with Hammer. A Maori domestic. Hauiti Matena. aged 35, was remanded until October 20 on a charge of assaulting Moral! Khusal by striking him on the head with a hammer. Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said that accused was arrested yesterday morning. The man she was alleged to have assaulted had been taken to hospital, and the extent of his injuries was not known.
