TWENTY-MILE MARATHON

One of the chief sports attractions in Wellington to-day will be a 20mile invitation marathon race, at Trentham. Several bowling clubs will Hold their opening ceremonies and the official opening of the Petone Rowing Club will take place. Wairarapa will meet Wellington at table tennis, and during the week-end numerous golf fixtures will be played. There will be rille shooting at Trentham. Rowing. The official opening of the Petone Rowing Club’s 1933-1934 season will take place this afternoon. The opening ceremony will be performed by the Mayor of Petone. Mr. D. McKenzie. Bowling. The following bowling clubs will hold their opening ceremonies this afternoon: Wellington, Kelburn. Thorndon, Newtown, Island Bay, Hataitai, Hutt, Woburn, Petone and Petone Central. 20-mile Marathon. The greatest tejst of endurance in cross-country racing iu New Zealand will be held at 2.30 o’clock from the Trentham racecourse this afternoon with the holding of the Olympic 20mile marathon. Much interest is being evinced in the meeting of E. C. Brown, Otago road champion, and A. L. Stevens, the holder of the marathon title. The Olympic Club will defend the teams’ title. Association Football. The last Soccer match of the season will be played at the Kilbirnie Stadium to-day at 3 o’clock, when Marist will meet Petone in the A division championship final. ‘ Rifle Shooting. The Karori' Defence Rifle Club will hold a practice shoot over the 300 and 600 yards ranges at Trentham today.. The Petone Rifle Club will open the season's shooting to-day at Trentham, when a triangular match between teams chosen by the deputy presidents will be fired at 300 and 500 yards. Tlie Golf Card.

A match will be played between the Miramar and Wellington clubs tomorrow, the A teams meeting at Miramar and the B teams at Heretaunga. A match will be played between the Masterton and Hutt clubs on the Hutt links to-morrow. The Hutt club will officially close its winter season this afternoon, ’when a mixed fourball bogey competition wid be played. The October bogey competition figures on the Shandon card for to-day. The two-life competition will be continued by the Titahi Ladies’ Club this afternoon, and the Roma Cup competition will be proceeded with during the week-end.

/The Mornington Ladies’ Club will play the third round for the president’s trophy, and the qualifying round for the club championship during the week-end.

The Shandon Ladies’ Club will play an L.G.U. medal round to-day, and a flag match to-morrow.

The Waiwetu Ladies’ Club will play a bogey competition to-day. Te Marua club will play a mixed foursome for the Harris Cup during'the week-end.
