JEWISH REFUGEES
Action by League Council
GERMAN ATTITUDE
(Received October 12, 10.5 p.m.)
London, October 12.
A Geneva message says that the League Council will probably appoint a governing board to direct Jewish work this week, but the appointment of a High Commissioner depends ou the discovery of a suitable candidate willing to accept the position. Viscount. Cecil’s name is mentioned. The German delegate Herr Von Keller refrained from voting on the motion that the council should nominate a high commissioner to direct Jewish refugee work, but this did not prevent the adoption of the motion. The work therefore will proceed.
The German delegation voted against a section of the Minority Committee’s motion advocating favourable treatment for Jews. The remainder of the motion, which was adopted, merely involves a pious hope that minorities will be treated with moderate decency.
