ARTESIAN WATER
Supply from Gear Island CONFERENCE TO-DAY Another conference is to be held today ot representatives of Hutt Valley local bodies and the Wellington City Council on the much-discussed proposal of the City Council to secure supplementary supplies of artesian water from the Hutt Valley. The subject, already discussed at one conference, is one which concerns the effect of such a drain on the artesian water supplies of local areas. The City Council’s advisers hold the view, after exhaustive tests, that taking the water from Gear Island south will not affect supplies for Petone and Lower Hutt, but the representatives of the Petone and Hutt Borough Councils are apprehensive as to the result of the City Council’s scheme. The loan for the artesi' ii water scheme has already been approved by the ratepayers of Wellington city.
