The National Debt
Sir. — Your paper is to be commended for giving such full publicity to Dr. Begg's address last week. I am astonished that there has not been more comment on it. Most people felt that endless borrowing was responsible for a good slice of this country’s troubles, and now Dr. Begg, states that we must cither go on borrowing or adopt some other method of financing. A. statement that the national debt r s unpayable because England cannot and will not be able even to receive the interest is startling, to say the least.. What have our politicians te say about it? It is all very well patting ourselves on the back over our conversions, but what we want to know is whether we can ever do anything with the national debt, but keep on converting it or paying interest in huge amounts and wrecking our economic stabilfty.-I am. etc..
