Rugby, October 10. The Ministry of Labour announces a decrease last month of 74,510 in the number of registered unemployed. The total number of persons out of work is now 2,336,727. There was an increase during the month of 86,000 in the number of insured persons in employment. The total now at work is 9,943,000. '■ There has been a rediiction of unemployment each month, with the exception of July, when there was an increase of only 4000 in the total out of work. At the end of September the number unemployed was 866,338 fewer than at the end of January. The largest increase in employment last month was shown in the coalmining industry, which had 46,000 fewer unemployed. There were also - 8000 fewer unemployed in the iron and steel industry, 5000 in general and electrical engineering, 6000 in motor engineering, 8000 in metal goods manufacture, 7000 in pottery, 11,600 in cotton, and 5500 in wool. In eleven industry groups the total decrease in the number unemployed exceeded 104,000.
