HOCKEY BALL

Annual Wairarapa Event

Hockey players and their friends from all parts of the district attended the combined Wairarapa Ladies’ and Men’s Hockey Association’s third annual ball, held in the Masterton Municipal Hall on Wednesday night. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion, and the scene presented was an animated one.

Decorations in the main hall were carried out effectively with green and gold streamers, while round the walls were large clumps of greenery. Suspended from the ceiling were the emblems of the various clubs in the district. and over the stage was the association’s monogram. The orchestral stand was attractively decorated in greenery, and the stage was set off with comfortable sofas and armThe M.C.’s were Messrs. C. N. Cole, H. Jacob, S. Fisher, and W. Cummings. The hall decorations were carried out by Mr. C. N. Cole, with the assistance of Messrs. F. Williams, S. Burnip, D. Burgess, F. Lusty, C. Loader, and M. Hanley. Supper arrangements were in the hands of a women’s committee, consisting of Mesdames J. Smith, Lusty, Hanley, A. Wainscott, R. S. Moor, C. N. Cole, and the Misses Smith (2), M. Jones, J. Jones, D. Gray, E. McCord, D. Gillespie, L. Rutherford, E. Wainscott, M. Clarke, R. Attree, A. Smith, A. Beech, Z. Pickering, P. Williams, L. Newland, E. Ilodgins, T. Rippon, Bassett, and Watson. Members of the men’s committee were Messrs. A. E. Bate, R. S. Moor, G. Edwards, M. Cole, and D. A. Pickering. At an interval in the proceedings, Mr. G. W. Morice, president of the Ladies’ Hockey Association, and Mr. G. ITavne, vice-president of the Men’s Hockey Association, presented the trophies won during the past season. Much of the success of the function was due to the untiring work of the joint secretaries, Miss N. Pike and Mr. E. J. Hodgkinson, who had all arrangements complete.
