CALL TO MINISTER

Khandallah Presbytery RT. REV. D. D. SCOTT The Wellington Presbytery at its meeting on Tuesday evening sustained and transmitted to the Auckland Presbytery a call from the Khandallah Presbyterian Church to the Right Reverend Donald David Scott; Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly, and minister of Onehunga, Auckland. The call had been signed by 158 members from a communion roll of 203, and a form of concurrence had been signed by 58 adherents. Messrs. Stanley Mirams and G. M. Pottinger appeared as commissioners from the Khandallah congregation in support of the call, which they declared to be hearty and unanimous. Mr. Scott has been for the past twenty-eight years in the Onehunga charge, and has gradually achieved a wide reputation for his learning and careful scholarship in all branches of theology and philosophy, as well as in general, and especially in New Zealand literature. He is the owner of one of the best ministerial libraries in the Dominion. He has been for many years the highly respected, clerk of the Presbytery of Auckland. By reason of fine qualities of friendship and, wise judgment, he has long.been held in the highest esteem throughout the church, and this was worthily recognised in his election to the moderatorial chair of the General Assembly in February of this year. He has also placed his learning at the wider disposal of the church in many articles for religious publications, and has been a regular lecturer at summer schools of theology. Mr. Scott is at present the regular contributor of a survey of theological literature to the “New Zealand Journal of Theology,” and is a member of its editorial committee.

His eldest son, Mr. H. S. Scott, M.A., Is at present pursuing advanced studies for the ministry in Cambridge, having passed through the Theological Hall in Dunedin.

At one time many calls were addressed to Mr. Scott, but strong pressure from his parishioners in Onehunga has previously prevailed In inducing him to remain with them. Should he accept this present call, his induction will probably not take place till early in November.
