Those associated with him were Colonel F. Symon, Director of Artillery, Colonel R. S. McQuarrie, and Major W. H. Johnson. The toast of the brigade was proposed by Colonel Symon, who paid a tribute to the unit’s service during the war, and said that the other brigades were proud of the men of the second brigade, N.Z.F.A. In replying, Colonel Falla referred in eulogistic terms to the brigade’s first commander, Colonel F. B. Sykes. He said he thought that Colonel Sykes was really the essence of the second brigade. In their reunions the second brigade liked nothing better than to welcome those from other batteries and brigades with whom they were associated. The toast list was a brief one, and and there were many enjoyable vocal and musical items during the evening.
