WHEAT LIMITATION

“Momentous Achievement” American’s opinion Washington, August 31. Mr. Henry Wallace, Secretary for Agriculture, said that the international wheat agreement approved at London would limit exports from Canada to 200,000,000 bushels, from the United states to 47,000,000 bushels, from Argentina to 110,000,000 bushels, and from Australia to 160,000,000 bushels up to July 1 next year. Mr. Wallace hailed the agreement as a momentous achievement. He said that no agreement had been reached as to production on the quotas after 1934, but would be negotiated later through the Advisory Committee. De stated that the agreement sets the Australian exports during 1933-34 and 1934-35 seasons combined'at 255,000.000 bushels. TAX ON FLOUR To Compensate Growers Ottawa, August 31. Prairie wheat growers have proposed to the Government that the reduced acreage necessary to carry out the wheat, quota agreement be compensated for b.v a tax on flour for domestic use. The revenue thus raised would be paid to.farmers, pro rata, on an acreage basis. Non-wheat-growing provinces are preparing protests on the ground that the proposed tax would materially increase bread prices.
