RAILWAY OFFICERS

Salary Scale Regulations CORRECTION OF DEFECT Regulations providing for salary scales for the First (salaried) Division of the Railway Department, are published In the current Gazette. In an accompanying statement the chairman/of the Government Railways Board, Mr. H. H. Sterling, explained that this was necessary owing to a technical defect which had been discovered in the regulations bearing on the classification of the Railway Department as hitherto existing. Mr. Sterling said he desired to make it clear that the scales now published made no alteration whatever in the rates of pay payable to the staff, and the rates as shown in the Gazette would, as expressed in the amended regulations; be subject to the “cuts” effected under the Finance Act, 1931, and the National Expenditure Adjust'ment Act, 1932. The salaries of the general manager of railways, the assistant general manager, chief engineer, superintendent of workshops, locomotive superintendent, signal and electrical engineer, assistant chief engineer, comptroller of stores, and the chief accountant, are subject to appropriation in accordance with the provisions of section 24 of the Government Railways Amendment Act, 1931. The salary of those tn grade I of subdivision I is given at £B5O, and those in grade 2 at £BOO,

There is a second table showing the rates of annual salaries and, increments in the various grades and subgrades in subdivision 11. This relates to salaries up to £765. ' ’
