INKLING’S ADVENTURES

After a great deal of excitement Inkling arrived at the beich. He was rather lonely at first, none of 1 his friends were there: so at last be decided to visit the Toheroa family, who lived in a sandy patch not far away.

He hailed . a seagull who was busily making the acquaintance of a cockle. "Can you tell me which patch the Toheroas live in?” he asked. , ’ , "Yes, over there,” pointed the gull.

Quickly Inkling went, and arrived just in time to see the largest Toheroa of al! preparing to dig his way into the sand. The tide was coming in and he was hurrying. With his big muscle foot (that is sometimes wrongly called a tongue), he scooped the sand away until he had made a hole. ■ He scooped away until no sign of him remained except a small hole in the sand.

The incoming waves chased Inkling back to the 'shore, feeling rathet annoyed with the Toheroa family. Mr. Toheroa bad been abrupt, but. then, be,was very busy. Inkling sauntered off. He wanted to sec one of the sand people, the Katipo spider.
