TROTTING NOTES

New Brighton Meeting

FIELDS FOR TO-DAY

A Review of the Form

(By

“Overcheck.”)

, As is usually the case, the New Brighton club has received heavy acceptances for its meeting to-day, and as a large number of improving horses are engaged the racing promises to be of an extremely interesting character. The form displayed should give a lead as to the , chances of horses with engagements, at the Wellington club’s meeting next Saturday. The programme is as follows:—IMPROVERS’ HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; 3.50 class. One mile and a half. All Parrish .. scr Renova scr Bon Haven ... scr Roan Hal scr Chiming Wrack scr Royal -Parrish scr Dynasty scr Wahnooka ... scr Endurance ... scr Harvest Dillon 12 Goulburn scr Great Wood .. 24 Hakatere scr Heather 36 Header act Hokemai 36 Isabel Patch .. set Sister Mary ... 36 Master Wrack . scr Ganton 48 Native Home . scr Sea Gift 48 Norman Fox .. scr Real Boy 06 Parrish Beau . scr Nelson's Prince 132 Rembrandt ... scr Of the scratch division in the Improvers’ Handicap the chances of Chiming Wrack and Norman Fox may be held in most esteem. Tho former has been working well, and with a decent passage should be a hard horse to beat. Great Wood won at bis first outing at New Brighton, while others with form to recommend them are Sea Gift and Hokemai. These horses may, however, experience difficulty in getting through such a large field. Chiming Wrack, Norman Fox, and Great Wood may be the favourites. BELFAST HANDICAP, of 120 sovs.; 3.40 class. One mile and a halt. Derby Thorpe . scr Preface scr General Wrack . scr Recess scr Grand Author . scr Royal Audo .. scr Iron Man scr Smoke Screen . scr Jimmy de Oro scr Thackeray .... scr Llewellyn's Pet- scr Thornworthy . scr Margaret Warpath scr Parrish scr Sonoma Laddie 24 In the Belfast Handicap three that may appeal are Thornwortby, Recess and Iron Man. The first-named has been racing well and a winning turn is not far off. Recess usually races kindly, while Iron Man raced well during the latter part of last season. Thornworthy will probably be favourite. BURWOOD HANDICAP, of 200 sovs.; 4.40 class. Two miles. Erin’s Princess scr Sandown 24 Gold Paper .... scr War Paint .... 24 Great Burton scr Checkers 36 Suncross scr Clro 36 Taxpayer .... 12 Pronto Bingen 36 Wild Guy 12 Worthy Klug . 36 Cloudy Range . 24 Arabond 72 Denver City ... 24 Wrecker 72 The Burwood Handicap should be a good race. Erin’s Princess and Gold Paper are a likely pair on scratch, but of these I prefer the former. If back to his best form, Taxpayer should be troublesome. Oloudy Range is probably the best horse on 24 yards, while Pronto Bingen’s recent form at Addington suggests him as a possibility from the 36 yards division. Arabond and Wrecker may find 72 yards too much to give away. Three that should be well backed are Erin’s Princess, Cloudy Range, and Taxpayer! SEA VIEW HANDICAP, of 120 sovs.; 3.0 class. One mile and a quarter.' Becky de Oro . scr War Boat scr Cam Dillon ... scr Doll Dance ... 12 Ezywurk .... scr Midnight Sun . 12 Goldwortby ... acr Queen Author . 12 Grand Finale .. scr War Buoy .... 12 Mervln Bingen scr Anthum 24 Modern Girl (t.) sei Bettv Wrack .. 24 Thackeray .... scr College Boy .. 24 Vagabond King scr Gunmetal ... 24 Vesta Ray scr Tangatu .... 24 War Bird scr Ruth Logan .. 36 War Buoy is certain to go .out favourite for the Seaview Handicap and will take a lot of stopping unless he experiences a bad gun. Of the others, Gunmetal and Tangatu may receive most support. DASH HANDICAP, of 130 sovs.; 2.19 class. One mile. Accras scr Holly Bank ... 12 Cannonball ... scr King’s Cup ... 12 Goldfield ... scr Lord Leslie ... 12 Goldworthy . scr Priceless .... 12 Little Victor .. scr Special Sun ... 12 Royal Chenault scr War Officer ... 12 Wild Binged .. scr Golden Direct . 24 Guy Denver ... 12 In the Dash- Handicap, Goldfield, if she begins Lord Leslie, Priceless and Golden Direct are a likely quartette. Accras raced well at the Kaikoura meeting and must also be considered. Possibly the favduritism will be shared by Lord Leslie, Priceless and Gold: field. SPRING HANDICAP, of 150 sovs.; 4.45 class. Two miles. Enigma ...7. scr Atnonos 36 Gcrmanicus .. scr Don Chenault . J 6 Radley ..;... scr Deceitful .... 72 Real Boy scr Real Belle .... 84 Resound .... scr Mr. Penalty ... OB Raclalm .... 12 New Metford . 180 Nelson’s Prince 24 The back-markers are set a difficult task in the Spring Handicap, but Real Belle is such a quick beginner as a rule that she makes up a good deal of ground before the others are on the way. Raclaim, Germanicus, Nelson's Prince and Amonos are useful trotters and, with the advantage of position, may keep Real Belle out of the money. Germanicus, Raclaim, and Nelson’s Prince may be the favourites. WAINONI HANDICAP, of 150 sovs.; 2.50 class. One mile and a quarter. Cloudy Range scr Wilbur White . 12 Denver City ... scr Worthy King . 12 Manoeuvre .... scr Dusollna .... 24 War Paint .... scr Gay Gordon ... 24 Apex 42 Craganour .. 36 Checkers .... 12 Grand Canyon 36 Clro 12 Probationer . 36 Pageant d'Or . 12 Somerby .... 48 Pronto Bingen 12 Wilma Dillon . 48 Reporter ~..12 The pace will be on all the way in the Wainoni Handicap and the race should be a difficult one to win. Cloudy Range has a good chance from off the front, but he will be kept busy to hold off Pageant d’Or, Craganour, Pronto Bingen and Ciro. Craganour may be favourite, hut he will have to be all his admirers consider him to be to account for Cloudy Range, Pronto Bingen and Ciro. ELECTRIC HANDICAP (In saddle), of 130 sovs.; 2.17 class. One mile. Accras scr Ulm scr Aristotle .... scr Suncross .... 12 Awa-lti scr Taxpayer ... 12 , Chenwood ... scr Denver City .. 24 Holly Bank ... scr Sandown .... 24 King’s Cup ... scr Gay Gordon ... 36 Princess Thea . scr Meteor 48 Roval Parade . scr Royal Parade, Chenwood and Awa-iti will probably carry the bulk of the money in the Electric Handicap. The first and last-named have already proved their ability under saddle. Chenwood is a stronglooking chap and the weight on top should not trouble him.
