BACKS GET TRIES St. Pat’s Win Unofficial Game A scrappy game at Prince of Wales Park saw St. Patrick’s Old Boys defeat Oriental by 11 pointe to 3 in an unofficial first division match. All through St. Patrick’s held the dominating position, and a hard-working pack sent the game along at brisk pace and bustled Oriental at times. St. Patrick’s three-quarter line made a good showing, while McGuinness at full-back played a particularly fine game. It was not long after the commencement that St. Patrick’s backs got. away, a pretty movement resulting in Phillips, the winger, securing a try wide out. McGuinness missed the kick. Oriental then went to the attack, Fullford, Oriental winger, making a nice break. Play for a while became fairly bright, each side making incursions to the other’s territory, and an infringement on the part of St. Patrick’s gave Ramsay the chance to kick a penalty for Oriental from a difficult position. After some mediocre play St. Patrick’s backs again gained possession, and a pretty movement saw B. McCarthy, the winger, score an excellent try. McGuinness converted. The half-time score was St. Patrick’s Old Boys 8, Oriental 3. Oriental sprang to the attack on resuming, and the back line essayed some passing movents, Fullford and Ruru being .especially prominent. St. Patrick's were near to scoring when Dennehy made a fine solo effort with the ball at his feet, but a force-down saved a dangerous situation. After McGuinness had kicked a penalty for St. Patrick’s, the game be.came rather ragged. Oriental made a strenuous effort to pull the game out of the fire, but the final whistle saw the score St. Patrick's Old Boys 11, Oriental 3. Mr. H. H. Anslow was referee.
