Guthrie—Hilton

The wedding was celebrated in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Wanganui, recently, of Maud Mary, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Hilton, Gloucester Street Wanganui, to Herbert Thornton, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Guthrie, of Springvale, Wanganui. The Rev. John Patterson, M.A., officiated. The church was prettily decorated with flowers by friends of the bride.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of Ivory satin and lace, modelled on classical lines, with long fitting sleeves, finished with effective points over the wrists. Her beautifully embroidered tulle veil was held to the head with orange blossoms. She. carried a sheaf bouquet of winter roses, freeslas, and maidenhair fern, with delicate touches of pink. Misses Beatrice Hilton, sister of the bride, and Phyllis Guthrie, sister of the bridegroom, were the bridesmaids. They were dressed in turquoise blue craquelle crepe, made on close-fitting lines, and with ivory velvet shoulder capes with medici collars. They also wore turbans, mittens, and shoes in the same shade, and crystal necklaces and earrings to match, the latter being the gifts of the bridegroom. Both bridesmaids carried sheafs of pale pink carnations and cyclamen, with maidenhair fern. Mr. James Hird, of Masterton, carried out the duties of best man, and Mr. Roy Harrington, of Masterton, was groomsman.

The bride’s mother, wearing a becoming frock of violet ripple crepe niarocain with coatee to match, violet toque, and eye veil, and carrying a bouquet of violets, freesias, and maidenhair fern, received about seventy guests at the reception, held at the Rendezvous, The tables were decorated with pale pink Iceland poppies and maidenhair fern. A dress of nigger brown elephant crepe, with cream trimming, and a toque and eye veil to tone, were worn by the bridegroom’s mother. She also carried a bouquet of tangerine popples, jonquils, and autumn leaves. When the happy couple left for the north the bride was wearing a smart model frock of brown wool marocain, trimmed with beige, brown felt hat, musquash fur coat, shoes, and handbag to match. Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie’s future home will be in Masterton.
