SCHOOL READERS
Library System Praised
' Appreciation of the supplementary school reader scheme for -primary schools supplied by the WellingtonLibrary was voiced at the meeting of the Wellington Sch'ool Committees and Educational Federation last night. The chief librarian, Mr. J. Norrie, wrote reminding the federation of the necessity for financial support of the supplementary reader scheme tor tlie primary schools of 'Wellington. A large number of new readers had arrived, aud were being prepared at the Newtown branch for circulation. The readers were among the more recent publications of the type ' issued for school work, and the choice was the result of consultations between the public library ami school authorities in Wellington. The scheme was of considerable assistance to scholars and teachers, said Mr. Norrie, aud every effort should be made by the federation to ensure that the work might continue. He pointed out that during the past year a sum of £lOO was received from various sources. The Wellington Education Board had contributed £25 towards the scheme. Tlie secretary, Mr. N. A. Ingram, stated that he had replied to the effect that the £loo which had been contributed last year had been raised by the federation. The president. Mr. F. H. Porter, said that it was only fair that tlie school committees which benefited should contribute toward the cost of supplementary readers. Those committees which had not contributed had been communicated with. The federation could await the chief librarian's reply.
