Public Revenue Returns Compared UNEMPLOYMENT ACCOUNT Full details of the public accounts for the financial year ended March 31 appear in a special Gazette issued yesterday. The main features are referred to by the Acting-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon J. G. Coates, in his statement published in the adjoining column. The principal item .'under this heading was interest, which accounted for £8,408,681. Repayment of the public debt was represented by a sum of £l,201,152. A contribution of-£lOO.OOO was made toward the cost of the Singapore Naval Base. The tax on motor spirits transferred to the Main Highways Account amounted to £644,126, and the tax on spirits paid to boroughs to £08,501. The amount paid in exchange on remittance was £812,451. The Unemployment - Fund -Account shows that the unemployment levy amounted to £429,004, as against £538.503 the previous year. The emergency unemployment charge of a shilling., in the pound realised £3,591.432. This was the main source of the Unemployment Board’s revenue. ..
