Motorists’ Licenses Urged

(From “The Dominion,’’ June 11, 1008.) A meeting of the Wellington motor traders was held on Tuesday evening when several important resolutions were passed relative to the regulation and control of motor traffic. A desire was expressed to have an Act passed by Parliament to compel drivers of all cars to be licensed whether a private owner or otherwise, and every applicant for a driver’s certificate of competency, before receiving same, to undergo a satisfactory examination by a duly authorised inspector, and such license to be forfeited after three indorsements. This would be following in the steps of the Royal Automobile Club, which is the governing body of motoring in Great Britain.

The whole of the working plans of the new General Post Office for 'Wellington are now ready. It is expected that tenders will be called for the erection of the building next week. The site is to be cleared forthwith.
