STRANDED LAUNCH
Kereru Not Yet Refloated
CONDITIONS UNSUITABLE A freshening southerly wind decided the party that went out to Palliser Bay early yesterday morning for the purpose of salvaging the launch Kereru, which went ashore there on Sunday last, not to move her. Accordingly, they made her fast to the beach, to await more suitable conditions.
The salvage party comprised 22 persons, 14 of whom went to Mr. E. Riddiford’s station at Orongorongo by car and then walked along the beach, the remainder arriving by launch. J ? Conditions appeared favourable when the salvagemen left the station, but when they reached their destination the wind had freshened, and heavy waves were rolling in, so that they decided not to attempt to launch the boat, but to make her fast to the beach, and to make another attempt to salvage her as soon as conditions are favourable The men anticipate no difficulty in refloating the launch.
