Pereira Meets Manios MATCH~A~ DRAW Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, June 10. A draw was recorded in the professional wrestling contest held in the Opera House ou Saturday night between Al Bereirn (Bortugal) aud Harry Alamos (Greece). Bereira secured a submission fail in (he fifth round, while Manios equalised in the seventh round, slamming his opponent hard to the mat, gaining a fall. The contest was tlie brightest and cleanest staged in Wanganui for some time. All the rounds were marked by colourful •wrestling. Matters had been very even up to the fifth round, when Pereira made a punishing attack. Alamos broke free and tried to apply an aeroplane spin, lint found the Portuguese too heavy, and the pair fell to tlie mat with Pereira on top. and be secured a submission fall. In the seventh round Pereira applied bis punishing body scissors, but Manios escaped to lift bis rival off bis feet and slam him to the unit for a fall. Botli were all out iu round eight, tlie final one, but tlie gong sounded with honours even. Both contestants received a great ovation for their fine showing, which was devoid of showmanship. Alaison, lOst. 71b., beat R. Jones, Ost. 131 b.. by one fall to none: J. Alitchcll. lOst.. beat It. Styles, 9sl. 131 b.. by two falls to none.
Mr. A. Alexander (I’almerston North) refereed the professional contest. while Mr. J. Manley, of Wanganui, officiated in the same capacity for the amateur contests.
