TAXATION RELIEF
Predicted in Australia FEDERAL AND STATE Melbourne, June 9. A definite promise of taxation relief in this year’s Budget was given by Sir George Pearce, Minister of Defence, in the Senate. He said that the whole field of taxation would be reviewed in the forthcoming Budget to see in what manner the greatest relief would be given. A reduction in the unemployment relief tax at an early date was also predicted by the Premier of New South Wales, Mr. B. S. B. Stevens, at the Federal Loan Council meeting. He would not, however, indicate the probable extent of the reduction or the probable date of commencement. A proposal for the suspension of sinking fund payments for one year, made by the Victorian Premier, was rejected. The Loan Council determined that the aggregate deficits for 193334 should amount to £9.000.000.
