FALLING REVENUE

Municipal Gasworks in Difficulties Dominion Special Service Auckland, June 9. The revenue-earning capacity® of the Waihi Municipal Gasworks has been rapidly diminishing . during the past three or four years, and the losses on the service are now such as to give the borough council much concern for the future of the department. It was suggested recently that the losses might be minimised by supplying con- ( sumers of gas with cookers on the time-payment system, but the council is faced with the difficulty of finding money with which to purchase these in sufficient numbers. This and other matters were discussed in committee at a meeting of the council, but nothing definite was decided. Pending further investigation the town clerk will prepare a detailed statement of the finances of the de partment. and an independent outside report will be obtained on the position of the service and the condition of the plant generally.
