Masterton Esperanto Club Dominion Special Service. Masterton, March 3. An interesting talk in Esperanto was given by Miroslav I’avlinovich at the weekly meeting of the Masterton Esperanto Club last evening. The speaker referred to the progress of Esperanto in'his homeland. Jugo-Slavia. which, be said, had a greater percentage of Esperantists than any other European country. A. humorous monologue in Esperanto was given by Mr. H. Franks, D.B.E.A. Vital Statistics for Pahiatua. Mastertoil W.E.A. Lecture. The wonderful work of Miss Jane Addams in the slums of Chicago during the past 43 years and in other fields of national nnd iniVrnationnl endeavour, was related by Mr. .1. A. Brailsford. 8.A., in his W.E.A. lecture in the Masterton Municipal Lecture Hall last evening. Mr. Brailsford will conclude his present series of lectures next week when bis subject will be “The Nameless Great.” Tennis Club's Competitions. The finals of the Eketahuna Tennis Club's various championship and handicap competitions have now been decided. The winners are:—Women's championship singles. Miss M. O’Donnell; men's championship singles, J. Pickering; combined doubles, G. Stonc-Wigg ami Miss N.’ Greathead; women’s handicap singles, Miss N. Greatliead: men’s handicap singles, G. Stonc-Wigg: women's handicap doubles. Misses M. and G. O’Donnell; men's handicap doubles, G. Stone-Wigg and R. F. Hutchinson. Radio Listeners’ Club. Reference was made at the annua) meeting of the Pahiatua branch of the Manawatu and District Radio Listeners’ Association to the weak position of the association financially and it was suggested that a drive for members should be organised. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. J. G. Green; president, Mr. E. P. Badger; secretary and treasurer. Mr. L. Angelini; committee, Messrs. O. Stone. P. M alsh, H. T. Avery. Robinson, L. Hartley. F. Cosford, H. Rose, F. Martin, R. Glassey and Lawrence. It was decided to arrange fqr a local concert party to visit. the studio at Palmerston North and give a concert over the air from 2ZO.

British Music Society’s Concert. An enjoyable concert was presented in the Assembly Hall at Solway College last evening br the Masterton branch of the British Music Society. The programme, which included many items not previously heard in Masterton. was arranged by Miss Valeric Corliss, Dominion organiser of the society. Miss Corliss was solo jiianist and Miss Catherine Moncricff second pianist. The vocal soloist was Miss Hilda Ohttdley, who is the possessor of a beautiful contralto voice. She was accompanied by Miss Ormi Reid. _ In tlie course of tlie evening, Miss Corliss gave an interesting talk On modern Russian music. At the conclusion of the concert Mr. IV. If. Page, first chairman of tlie Wellington branch of the British Music Society, referred to the ideals of the society and also spoke of its growth in the Dominion. FOXTON NOTES Work of Dorcas Society Foxton, May 3. Seventeen parcels were sent out by the Foxton Dorcas Society during April, and eleven parcels received for distribution. As a result of a shop day effort £6 was raised. The society intends organising the distribution of soup to school children during th? winter months.
