ESPERANTO TUITION
Activities in Wellington The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club took place on Tuesday night, Mr. Bertram Potts, presiding. In order to assist the club executive in arranging the weekly programmes, the following programme committee was elected: Mrs. P. Morganti, Miss G. Carty, and Messrs. W. N. S. Brookman and A. J. Merchant. For the purpose of preparing junior students to take part in club programmes, it was arranged that Mr. J. K. Campbell would conduct a special half-hour course each club evening to elocution. Since the establishment of the club library on a new basis, several recent donations of (Esperanto books, comprising both original and translated works, have considerably extended it. The work involved has necessitated the appointment of a club librarian, Mr. Gordon Tait being appointed to the position. . Tuition classes have been organised under the direction of experienced teachers, and good progress has been made in the learning of- the international languages. Following the tuition period, conversation classes were arranged, the junior students being under the direction of Mr. Vernon Leek. Coloured posters supplied by the Government Publicity Department formed the basis of conversation ami proved very helpful to new members. In the senior circle, short extempore talks were given in Esperanto as follows: Mr. J. K. Campbell, “Mia Hundo;” Miss Coralie Smythson, “La Luno"; Miss I. Smythson, “La Haveno’’; the president, “La Virina Karaktero." The concluding item of the evening was an address on “La Principo de Teievido” by Mr. L. E. Dust, delegate of the Universal Esperanto Association, who graphically described in Esperanto the principles involved in television, illustrating his remarks with diagrams drawn upon the blackboard.
