Accident at Davis Street Level Crossing

REMARKABLE ESCAPE I Two people were injured when a motor-car in which they were driving was struck by a train at the Davis Street level crossing at 6.15 o’clock last evening. 'They were Air. and Airs. Archibald Walker, of 213 A Main Road, Eastbon rue. Air. Walker, who i-> a marine surveyor, received an injury to his left ribs, laceration of the seal]), and shock. His wife had her left ribs and back injured, and suffered shock. The ear, which was travelling from Waterloo Road on to the Main Hull. Road, was lifted bodily on the front of the engine and carried a distance of about three chains. When the train pulled up Mr. and Airs. Walker were still seated in the car. which was a total wreck'. Both the occupants of the car are considered to have had a remarkable escape from death. They were taken Io the public hospital in Ihe Free Ambulance. Air. Walker is the Hutt candidate for the Harbour Board election to-day.
