Provincial Championship SOME GOOD SCORES Play in Final To-day As if to compensate for the atrocious weather on Monday, glorious sunshine favoured the second day of the Wellington provincial ladies’ championship tournament on the Heretaunga links yesterday. Play was in keeping with the perfect conditions, and some good scoring was seen in the first and second rounds of the provincial championship. At the close of the day Miss Betty Rutherford (Hawarden), Miss V. Fleming (Christchurch), Miss Barns-Gra-ham (Poverty Bay), and Miss Hanson (Miramar) were left in to fight out the semi-finals and the final to-day. The following are the results: — Provincial Championship. Mrs. J. Wilson (Auckland) beat Mrs. Welton-Hogg (Wellington), 1 up. Miss Rutherford (Hawarden) beat Mrs. Stout (Wellington), 8 anil 7. . Miss Rathbone (Auckland) beat Miss White-Parsons (Christchurch). 7 and 5. Miss Fleming (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Buttle (Auckland). 3 and 2. Miss Barns-Graham (Poverty Bay) beat Mrs. Peacock (Wellington), 6 and 5. Mrs. D. Wilson (Hutt) beat Miss James (Masterton). 5 and 3. Mrs. Wilson was 2 up at the turn, but Mrs. Welton-Hogg played so well on the home run that the Auckland ehampion only won by a putt on the home green. Mrs. Wilson took 43 for the home journey, giving her 86 for the round. Miss Rutherford in Form. Miss Betty Rutherford (Hawarden) was in brilliant form itt her match with Mrs. Stout (Wellington). Running out in 41. the North Canterbury player was 6 up at the turn, and went on strongly to take the match by 8 up and 7 to play. Mrs. Stout was right off her game, due no doubt to the fact that she is devoting so much time to assisting to conduct the tournament. Miss Rathbone (Auckland) maintained the efficiency whieh enabled -her to assist Miss Culling to win the foursome championship. boating Miss White-Parsons (Christchurch) by 7 up anti 5 to go. Miss V. Fleming, the Christchurch provincial champion, had a stern battle with Mrs. Buttle (Auckland), who played so well on the out journey that she was 1 up at the turn. The Christchurch and Russley player then came on to her game, and ran out a winner by 3 and 2. Mrs D. Wilson (Hutt) was too steady for Miss James (Masterton). Driving a long ball, and keeping good direction, the Hutt player always had something in hand, and took the match by 5 and 3. A Hard Fight Mrs. Guy Williams (Masterton) and Miss McClure (Wellington) were very evenly matched. The Masterton player went out in 43 to stand 2 up at the turu. Miss McClure took 46 for the out journey. recording a birdie 2 at the Sth. Mrs. Williams did the home journey in 44, but Miss McClure fought every yard of the way, and was only beaten by a putt on the borne green. Miss Hanson (Miramar) and Miss Marjorie Macfarlane (Auckland) bad a great fight, which was only settled on the last green, where Miss Hanson won. Second Round Battles. Some stern tussles took place in the second round. Mrs. P. Wilson (Auckland) played her usual steady game, to be 3 up on Miss Rutherford at the turn. The North Canterbury player, though she placed her second !n the bunker at the 10th, took the hole in 5 to 6 through faulty work by the Aucklander on the green. They halved the next four holes in 5. 6,5, and 3. Miss Rutherford reduced her leeway to 1 down by sinking a long putt to take the 15th in 3 to 4. Mrs. Wilson was bunkered going to the 16th, while the North Canterbury player was nicely on in two, and drew all square by taking the hole in 4 to 5. Mrs. Wilson hooked her second into the rough to the left of the 17th green, and Miss Rutherford drew 1 up with a bogey 4 to 5. Mrs. Wilson took 43 for the outward journey, and came hack in 46. Miss Fleming (Christchurch), struck Miss Rathbone (Auckland) right off her game. Miss Barns-Graham did not play so well in the second round, when she was up against a seasoned match player in Mrs. D. Wilson (Hutt). Both had lapses on the out journey, which the Gisborne player did in 46 to Mrs. Wilson's 47. and I they turned for home all square. Both | played really good golf on the run home,

which Miss Barnes-Graham did in 39 to Mrs. Wilson’s 40. A Win For Miramar. Miss Hanson, the Miramar champion, played very steadily to defeat Mrs. Guy Williams by 6 and 5. The Miramar player was 3 up at the turn, and finished with 4,.4, 5,4, to take the match on the 13th green. The Semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played this morning, when Miss Rutherford will meet Miss Fleming, and Miss BarnesGraham will try conclusions with Miss Hanson. Some classy golf should be seen. The final will be played after lunch. Heretaunga Trophy. The competition for the Heretaunga trophy, for which the second sixteen qualifiers competed, caused much interest. The results were as follow: — First Round. Miss Chrystall beat Miss Riddiford, 1 up at the 19th. Miss Garner beat Miss McCarten, 7 and 5. Mrs. Blain beat Mrs. Kerr, 6 aud 5. Miss Robinson beat Miss Wheeler, 1 up. Miss Marion Macfarlane beat Miss Joan Williams, 5 and 3. Miss Vincent beat Miss Ward, 5 and 3. Miss Bel! beat Mrs. Collins, 2 and 1. Mrs. Hunt beat Mrs. Kemp, 7 and 6. Second Round. Miss Chrystall beat Miss Garner, 3 and 2. Miss Robinson beat Mrs. Blain. 1 up. Miss Vincent beat Miss Marion Macfarlane, 3 and 2. Mrs. Hunt beat Mrs. Bell, 5 and 4. The semi-finals will be played this morning, and the final this afternoon. Handicap Bogey. The handicap bogey competition, played yesterday, resulted in a win for Miss Marion Macfarlane (Auckland), who, with a handicap of 10, finished 2 up. Miss Johnston (15) returned the best card in the junior division, all square. Medal Handicap. The medal handicap yesterday was won by Miss Barton, whose card read 87-15-72. A medal handicap on Monday resulted in a lie between Miss Marjorie Macfarlane (Auckland)* 89-13-76, and Miss Robinson (Waiwetu), 92-16-76. In a count back on the last nine holes. Miss Macfarlane won.
