TARANAKI HARBOURS
Amalgamation of Boards Sought by County
COMMISSION ASKED FOR By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, May 1. The appointment of a commission to investigate the advisability of amalgamating all the five harbour boards of Taranaki—New Plymouth. Batea. Waitara, Mokau. and Opunake—is being sought by the Taranaki County Council. The chief aims of the proposal are consolidation of all loans and a uniform basis rating over the whole of the province. The New Plymouth harbour rate recently imposed bears particularly on the small inner area, and the council considers this is a good opportunity for the Government to give effect to its promise to investigate local body control with a view to ama Igama lion.
