MECHANICAL MULE
Italian Military Innovation CARRIES LOAD OF A TON (Reuter Special to “The Dominion.”) London, March 23. Mountaineers who want all modem comforts in their climbing will be glad to hear that: the Italian Army lias introduced a mechanical mule which is neither vindictive nor stubborn. It is known as the “autocaretta, ’ and is able to move on narrow mountain tracks previously only accessible to mules. Also, it carries a larger load than the pack-mule. It is only four feel, wide and can carry a load of one ton. Another mechanical device, the loud-speaker, has been found valuable for adventures in out-of-the-way places. Captain A. G. R. (tarrod recently described in London how Ihe Royal Air Force used loud-speakers in a campaign against tribesmen in Kurdistan. Tie said the R.A.F. found that warnings and threats shouted down to the warring tribesmen from an aeroplane in the sky were more successful than high explosives. The desert warriors, hearing the “voice of Allah,” picked up their robes and ran.
