Mr. Gandhi has given (he , world a week’s notice of his next fast. He has informed the Press that he has decided unconditionally and irrevocably, to fast for twenty-one days, commencing on May 8. Mr. Gandhi says his fast is a heart prayer to God for purification of himself and his associates in the great work of improving the Jot ol India’s untouchables and outcasts. Many people think the fast is part of a deep political game, he says, but he assures them it is purely religious. He has no desire to die, _ 1 >nt is prepared to do so if God, wills. Bombay doctors declare that Mr. Gandhi, if he carries out hisi fast threat, will not live for twenty-one days, because his constitution is so fl *Mr. Gandhi says nothing will persuade him to abandon his decision.
