Exciting Mayoral Contest (From “The Dominion,” April 30, 1008.) The contest for the Mayoralty of Wellington. which resulted in the election of the Hon. 3’. W. Hislop, who defeated Mr. J..G. W. Aitken. 41. P.. by a majority of 3643 voles', caused a good deal of quiet excitement, in Ihe city yesterday. * * * On and after Monday next the cash coupon system of purchasing bread will be put. into practice iu 'Wellington. The bakers are to ask 3s. -id. for a dozen coupons', each of which will purchase a 21b. loaf, or two dozen coupons that will each represent a 11b. loaf in value. If a person does not care Io purchase coupons—which are coloured green and orange and arc a little larger than an ordinary tram ticket. —they must pay cash for their bread.
