MR. HOLLAND’S BELIEF
Increase in Unemployment LABOUR PARTY’S SOLUTION By Telegraph—Press Association, Dunedin, May 1. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. 11. E. Holland, addressed a crowded meeting at the Town Hall last night. He asserted that there were at least 120,00 unemployed, and the number would probably increase to 150,000 this winter. A Labour Government would transfer these to economic work at a standard wage. He gave full details of Labour’s plan, whiclfhas been already announced, and attacked the “chronic obsession that Hie productive and distributive system of tbe country must be subservient to (he prevailing finance system.” The reverse was necessary. Labour would make available the necessary credit and currency to rehabilitate industry, preventing' inflation by a parallel increase in production. A unanimous vote of thanks was passed. Mr. Holland left: for the north this morning.
