MOTORISTS’ INTERESTS

Wellington Club Opposes National Body PROPOSAL BY AUCKLAND The action taken by the Auckland Automobile Association in changing its mime -to that of “The Automobile Association, Incorporated,” was commented on by Mr. E. A. Batt, chairman of the executive of the Wellington Automobile Club at a'meeting held last evening. The alteration, Mr. Batt stated, did not affect, the existing organisation, although he feared this might happen unless the North Island (N.Z.) Motor Union clearly defined the position. At present, each association deals with matters of local interest, while matters of national importance are dealt wit h’through the union. The matter had been discussed at a recent meeting of the executive of the union when it was stated by the Auckland representatives that ultimately they hoped that one association would be established to operate throughout. The Wellington Automobile Club, however, was not in agreement with the establishment of one association as it considered the present organisation was satisfactory, said Mr. Batt. Local committees, Mr. Batt considered, were in a much better position to deal with their own affairs, and in addition they had the advantage of a personal contact with members, which could not be maintained if one association replaced the present system. The Wellington Automobile Club had taken action so that the whole question could be discussed at the next conference of delegates from the various automobile associations.
