DEBUTANTES APPEAR

Dance at Marsden School PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION The dance held last night in the assembly hall of Marsden School, which was arranged by the Parents’ Association, was a great success. The handsome hall was attractively decorated, and on the stage, with its background of rich blue curtains, were bowls of crysanthemums of various colours. Supper was served on long tables in two of the form rooms, while upstairs in the lecture room tables were set for bridge. The guests were received by Dr. -raham Robertson, President of the Parents’ Association, Mrs. Robertson (convenor of the dance), and Miss Mayhew. There were quite a number of debutantes —old girls of Marsden —who looked very charming in their dainty frocks, and carried posies of pastel tonings. They were presented by Miss Margaret Whyte in turn to Miss Mayhew, Mrs. Sprott, Mrs. Knox Gilmer and Mrs. Robertson. Mrs. Robertson was wearing a smartly cut frock of black needle thread lace and small coat. Miss Mayhew was in a frock of cornflower blue moire. Mrs. Sprott wore a handsome frock of black stamped velvet and gold lace. Mrs. Knox Gilmer chose a black anI gel-skin lace frock with touches of georgette. Miss Margaret Whyte was wearing a frock of gold tissue with flame sash. The debutantes presented were:— Miss N. Kemble-Welch in a cream crushed velvet frock, with detachable cape. Miss Ruth Townley, wearing white georgette and lace frock over pale pink. Miss Mavis Giddings, in an ivory panne velvet frock with pearl embroidery, and small coat, fur trimmed. Miss Jocelyn Keeling, in-a simply cut white satin frock with velvet coatee. Miss Molly Robertson in a deepest blush cream satin frock with short crushed velvet cape. Miss Phyllis Whiteman, who wore an ivory elephant crepe frock with angel skin lace yoke. Miss Janet Burnett, wearing carnation pink spotted muslin frock, with deeper pink coat. Miss Ann Atkinson, wearing palest nile green georgette frock. Miss Jean Frazer in a parchment satin frock with tiny epaulet sleeves. Miss Dorothy Souter, in white ring velvet frock with cowl neckline and slim-fitting skirt. Miss Joyce Ciere, in a parchment satin frock with tiny quaint sleeves. Among the "next-of-kin” of the debutantes present were:— Mrs. Kemble-Welch in shell pink georgette and dlamente trimming. Mrs. A. J. Giddings, in black ring velvet and ermine cloth. Mrs. H. M. Frazer, electric blue georgette. Mrs. Ciere, black silk crepe and silver. Mrs. M. Burnett, black chantilly lace. Mrs. H. Keeling, black silk lace and net. Mrs. R. J. Townley, black angel-skin lace and georgette. Miss E. Atkinson, lemon French voile. During the evening dance items were given. Kathleen O’Brien presented a colourful ballet and June Reid and Jean Turnbull gave a lively turn. The committee responsible for the excellent arrangements included: Mrs. Graham Robertson (Convenor). Mi's. Neave, who was in a frock of black French lace. Mrs. H. Steele, in a black frock with deep ivory godets. Mrs. M. Burnett. Mrs. P. D. Cameron, frock of black angel-skin lace. Mrs. C. White, currant red silk crepe frock. Mrs. F. G. B. Gill, apple green satin. Mrs. Knox Gilmer. Mrs. V. R. Gunn, black lace frock with diamente trimming. Mrs. Palmer, cherry floral chiffon. Mrs. L. 11. Cunningham, deep burgundy coloured satin. Mrs. B. R. Webster. Mrs. G. 11. Scott, dark green lace. Mrs. D. Allen, coffee brown and beige lace. Mrs. A. V. Allen, spiderweb black lace frock, with velvet cape. Mrs. H. A. Keeljng. Mrs. E. Marsden, black embossed velvet in silver and rose. Mrs. G. H. Scholefield, coral lace frock. Mrs. L. Nelson, heavy red silk crepe. Mrs. K. J. Townley. Mrs. C. D. Gordon, purple elephant crepe with silver trimmings. Mrs. J. Parker, honey-coloured angelskin lace. Mrs. C. N. Taylor, black krinkly crepe. Mrs. Munay Litchfield, soft black chiffon velvet frock. Mrs. E. Wright, frock of black Spanish lape. Mrs. W. A.
